WhatsApp digital currencies

An England-based company will bring digital currencies closer to the mainstream digital audience. Wuabit is developing a multi-digital asset wallet for using cryptocurrencies within the most popular WhatsApp.

The payment solution will allow WhatsApp users to receive, send, trade, and perform other digital product related functions within the chat interface.

According to a report by theThe Express newspaper, development of the product by Wuabit is almost complete which include Bitcoin support for WhatsApp.

The report also revealed that Wuabit is planning to release the public beta of the application in April 2019. No other details of the public release was available.

“We are near completing the wallet core service starting with BTC. Usability is key in user adoption and a great enabler”a spokesperson of the company told the newspaper.

“Crypto payments via WhatsApp can introduce greater numbers of new users who only know how to chat to this complicated space,” the spokesperson added.

The blockchain-based company also has plans to introduce its service across other messaging platforms including Messenger, Telegram and Viber.

WhatsApp is the most popular chat app throughout the developing countries including Africa. Whereas Messenger is most popular in the developed world but implemented correctly, Wuabit could gain a huge user base in a very short space of time, leveraging the platform’s existing userbase.

Wuabit is also planning to integrate support for other major digital currencies like Bitcoin Cash,Litcoin and Ether. No mention of Ripple but also Facebook is working on the development of its digital coin which can be used across all platforms owned by the social media giant – Messenger and Instagram. Another popular messaging services Telegram jumped on the crypto bandwagon to introduceblockchain-based currencies on their platform.
