Nike files trademark “CryptoKicks”

Nike, one of the largest manufacturers of footwear and apparel has filed for a trademark patent named “CryptoKicks”. This patent was filed on 2019-04-26 and immediately has sparked interest from crypto enthusiasts as to what Nike could be doing in the crypto space.

This product, if it is granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office, will allow Nike to create a product that relates to blockchain or crypto technology. Currently, this trademark has been registered, and the approval process is live.

There however is no guarantee that this trademark has anything to do with blockchain technology or the cryptocurrency space. Crypto in the English language has been used for countless things. Realistically, it would be hard for Nike to create a shoe or piece of apparel that would allow customers to trade tokens. Currently, the crypto market space isn’t significant known to every household in North America and Europe.

However, this trademarked patent could be one for the bookshelves for Nike. With the growth of the crypto space, Nike might have an idea up their sleeves and could plan on releasing a product at the height of the crypto/blockchain industries in a few years. There is speculation that this product would be a mobile app supported by Nike and would also be on smartwatches created by the brand.

It’s not shocking that Nike is looking for new markets to invest into. It was recently reported that for the first time Nike has a quarterly revenue listed at more than $1 Billion. This was a first for the company, and due to a 36% rise in sales, they saw over 2018.

The US Patent and Trademark Office has thirty days to approve or decline this trademark from Nike.
